Understand the fundamental difference between Raiser\u2019s Edge and Salesforce.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re considering moving to Salesforce, you\u2019re not looking at an apples-to-apples comparison with Raiser\u2019s Edge. Raiser\u2019s Edge is a fundraising-specific product, while Salesforce offers a platform on which fundraising (<a href=\"https:\/\/teamheller.com\/resources\/blog\/beyond-fundraising-the-many-ways-nonprofits-are-using-salesforce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and many other<\/a>) products are built<\/p>\n<p>This requires a change in thinking about <a href=\"https:\/\/teamheller.com\/resources\/blog\/4-approaches-to-building-a-nonprofit-technology-stack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the approach to your software<\/a>, but it can pay off in the long run \u2014 especially if you want to do more with your fundraising program than Raiser\u2019s Edge can support.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2. Check your contract.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Before you get too far with researching and considering a move to Salesforce, be sure to review your Raiser\u2019s Edge contract so that you know the end date and what type of contract renewal you might need before moving to a new system. For example, if your end date is in just a few months, you likely won\u2019t have enough time to migrate to the new system before you must renew your contract.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>4. Prepare your data.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Simply moving to a new system will not do anything to clean up bad data. Start now to get a sense of how much data clean-up you might need to do before changing to new software. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you have a lot of duplicate records?<\/li>\n<li>How far back does your data go?<\/li>\n<li>What data do you need for the future?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even if you ultimately decide to stay on Raiser\u2019s Edge, having clean, updated data will help you operate more efficiently and effectively.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>5.
