What is NPSP?<\/span><\/h3>

NPSP is a managed package built on the Salesforce platform that nonprofits install into their environment to add nonprofit-specific features and functionality.<\/b><\/p>

Until recently, the standard approach for nonprofits adopting Salesforce involved using Sales or Service Cloud for core CRM capabilities, then layering NPSP on top to support fundraising. Other managed packages, like the Program Management Module and Volunteers for Salesforce, were often used alongside it.<\/span><\/p>

What is Agentforce Nonprofit \/ Nonprofit Cloud?<\/span><\/h3>

The nonprofit cloud Agentforce Nonprofit is natively embedded within the Salesforce platform, offering nonprofit-specific functionality out of the box and eliminating the need for separate installation. <\/b>Nonprofit Cloud (NPC) was renamed Agentforce Nonprofit in October, 2025. In this guide, we\u2019re going to use both terms.<\/span><\/p>

Agentforce Nonprofit also unlocks broader Salesforce capabilities that benefit all types of organizations, such as the Business Rules Engine, Data Processing Engine, and OmniStudio. Is Salesforce for nonprofits free?<\/span><\/p>

Salesforce works on a \u201cfreemium\u201d model, meaning basic functionality is available at no cost without a specified time limit. It offers discounted seats to eligible nonprofits and educational organizations through its <\/span>Power of Us program<\/span><\/a>. However, they will only get you so far and are designed to allow your organization to start collecting data, building workflows, and trying out the Salesforce ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>

As you grow, a ballpark is $720 per user\/year for the standard Agentforce Nonprofit \/ Nonprofit Cloud (or ~$495\/user\/year if using the older Sales Cloud + NPSP route). Choosing the Unlimited tier (~$1,000\u2013$1,200\/user\/year) increases costs but brings hefty benefits like included support and more capacity. Additional needs like more advanced AI, or modules like grantmaking will add to the cost, and support plans can also add ~30% if not bundled.<\/span><\/p>

Nonprofit Cloud is a paid, all-in-one solution with higher license cost but less assembly of pieces, whereas NPSP is a free accelerator on cheaper licenses, but you may spend more effort (and potentially cost on add-ons) to match what Nonprofit Cloud delivers. Nonprofit Cloud gives you more for your money in terms of built-in capabilities (from automation to AI to integrated program management), while NPSP offers a lower entry price and flexibility with the trade-off of more DIY integration.The total cost to use Salesforce varies depending on your nonprofit\u2019s unique needs, the number of licenses you require, whether you need additional support from an expert consultant, and more.
